  Account Manager

Click on "Account Manager" from almost any page within the site to login and to edit or make changes to your ad or personal account information.

I created an account but I don't see options where I can edit an ad.  What's wrong?

You will not be able to see ad edit options unless you actually have an ad placed.  You WILL be able to see other edit options such as your login and password, etc.

Can I put my ad in another category?

No.  An ad cannot be moved to a different classified category after it has been placed.  However, you can place the ad under a different section within the same category by editing your ad in "My Account."

Is there a way that I can tell how many people viewed my ad?

Yes.  You can see how many times your ad has been viewed by logging into "My Account."

Is there a way I can see the balance on my account?

Yes. You can see the balance on your account by logging into "My Account."  Usually this will be zero (0) since most ads require prepayment.

What is meant by "Save this ad as my default ad"?

By checking this box, the information in the current ad will be saved as your default information when placing an ad in the in the same category.  This helps save you time in case you have several ads to place you won't have to keep re-typing the same information.  If you need to type a similar ad, the information will automatically be provided in the ad form so that you do not have to re-type it.  

NOTE:  Default information applies only to the category it is saved in.  (For example, default information for an auto ad will only apply to any auto ads you place).  If your default ad expires and is not renewed, the default information and the ad will be available for up to 60 days.  If you create another ad, you can select that ad to be your new default ad and it will automatically become your default ad regardless of any other ads you chose as your default.  You can turn default completely off at anytime by logging into your account and deselecting the check box.

Do you guarantee results?

Yes - we guarantee results.  If you do not sell your item or service or is not satisfied after your ad has run for 30 days, you may request and receive a refund (less a 10% processing fee) of the cost of your ad.  This refund does not apply to situations where you received a special rate or a discount or free advertisement.  You must make your request in writing and submit to us by U.S. Postal mail within 10 calendar days after the ad has run for 30 days.  The mail must be postmarked within 10 days after the 30th day of the ad posted date.  The refund request must be made by the same person who placed the ad.  No refunds are allowed in situations where the advertisement is false or if the advertisement is in violation of our Terms or Use or our Privacy Policy.  Refund requests should be made to:  Refunds, Katy Classifieds, 1795 North Fry Road, #235, Katy, Texas  77449.  Please allow 10-15 business days to receive a refund.

 

  Online Check Payments

What are online payments by check?

Online payments by check is where you would use information from one of your blank checks to make a payment.  The payment will be auto-debited from your checking account the same way as if you had actually written a paper check.  All information is verified similar to that of using a credit card.  You should write on the hard copy of the check what you used it for and store it away in your files so that you don't accidentally try to use it to make some other purchase. 

  PayPal

What is PayPal?

PayPal is a payment processing company that allows anyone with a checking account and an email address to send and receive funds electronically. You will have to go through a few extra steps to verify your checking account and your email address but it is a good alternative if you don't want to use a credit card or check online.  You will be given the option of paying with PayPal when you are placing your ad.

Using PayPal To Sell Online   

You can accept credit card payments instantly via PayPal for ads placed in the Merchandise section. To accept credit card payments and sell your merchandise online, select one of the "Yes" options on the Merchandise form and a "Buy Now" button will be automatically included with your ad.

After placing your ad, you should go to PayPal and register your email address and a bank account number where you want your payments to be deposited.

When someone makes a payment to purchase your merchandise, you will be automatically notified by email with simple instructions on how to retrieve your funds.  After receiving your payment, you can then ship the merchandise to the buyer.

There are no qualifications to use PayPal except that you must provide PayPal a valid checking account in your name and a valid email address.  PayPal services are typically free but may charge a small fee for certain transactions; (usually about 3% or less).  See PayPal for more info.

  Payment Error

I tried to make a payment but the system stop responding.  What could be the problem?

Usually, your purchase should go through within a few seconds but there are a couple of instances where the system may seem to lock up:

1.  If you have JavaScript disabled in your browser, the payment process 
     cannot read your information.  Make sure your browser is enabled for
     JavaScript.  You should click the refresh button after enabling JavaScript.
2.  During peak hours, the system may be a little slow due to high traffic.
     Please allow additional time for processing during peak hours.

  Ad Expiration                                                                                             Top

How long will my ad run?

Your ad will run for the term you purchased.  If you would like to stop your ad from running before its expiration date, you can turn your ad off in "My Account".  When you turn your ad off, it cannot be seen by people browsing ads.  You can view your ad even when its off by logging into your account.  You can turn the ad on again later if you like so as long as the ad has not expired.  Your ad can be discontinued by KatyFlyer if it violates the Terms of Use or the Privacy and Security Policy.

If you renew your ad with time remaining till the expiration date of the ad, the new expiration date will automatically include the additional days you had remaining so that you will get ALL the days you paid for.

  Turn Ad On/Off                                                                                           Top

You can turn your ad on or off with the On/Off button anytime 24 hours/day 7 days/week.  When the ad is "On (active)," the ad can be seen when someone searches the section where the ad is listed.  When the ad is "Off (inactive)," the ad cannot be seen by anyone.  You can, of course, see your ad by logging into your account.  All display ads that are pending for review remain off by default and the on/off button will not work unless the ad has been approved.

I turned my ad off but I can still see it when I go to the classifieds section.  What's wrong?

Click the refresh button in your browser.

  Photo Uploading

NOTE: Clicking the back button in your browser after uploading a photo will automatically remove the photo from the ad.  After the ad is completely posted, clicking the back button will not affect the photo.

Can I upload a photo to my ad at a later date?

Yes.  You can upload a photo to your ad anytime so as long as the ad hasn't expired.

What is the cost of uploading a photo to my ad?

There is no additional cost to include photos with your ad.  If you don't have a photo available at the time you place your ad, you can always load a photo later.

What is the maximum photo size accepted?

Each individual photo can be no larger than 100KB (or 100,000 bytes).  Any photo exceeding 100KB will not be loaded in which case you will receive an error message stating that the size of the photo is too large or the system will simply time out.

How can I remove or replace a photo from my ad?

When you go to "My Account," you will have the option of adding, removing, or replacing a photo.

I uploaded a new photo, then hit the back button, and the form still shows the old photo.  What happened?

This is normal behavior for the photo process.  If you click on the back button after loading a photo, it will automatically remove any photos just loaded.

I filled out an ad form and included a photo and then clicked the preview button and the system seemed to stop responding.  What's happening?

If you include a photo with your ad, it may take a few extra seconds to load the photo due to the size of the file.  If you position your mouse pointer in the area at the bottom of your screen, the pointer will show a rotating hour glass next to it to let you know that it is processing.

  Personals Ad                                                                                              Top

I can see brief information of people who responded to my personals ad but I cannot see the details or reply to those responses.  What's wrong?

Placing a personals ad is totally free but to respond to those who reply to your ad requires the purchase of response time.  (Response time is represented in days).  Click on the response time link in the upper right corner of your mailbox to purchase response time.  After purchasing response time, you can respond to any personal ads so as long as you have response time (i.e. days) remaining.  The amount of response time you have remaining shows in the upper left corner of your mailbox.

If I have response time remaining and decide to purchase additional response time, will I get my remaining response days in addition to my newly purchased response days?

Yes.

I purchased response time but the amount of response time still shows the same number of days . . . and I didn't receive any error messages.  What should I do?

Hit the refresh button in your browser and the number should reflect the amount of days you actually have.

How can I place a personals ad and only reveal the ad to people I want to respond to?

When you place your ad, the ad goes "live" immediately by default.  However, you can go to "My Account" and turn the ad off.  When you turn the ad off, the only people who will be able to see your ad (other than yourself) are people who you send messages to.  All other people will not be able to see your ad at all unless you turn the ad back on.

Can I have more than one personals ad?

Yes you can but we advise against it since the system operates on the premise that you only have one personals ad running.  If you have more than one personals ad running, the person you send a message to may be able to see both of your ads which could be a bit awkward and will probably make the other person question the legitimacy of your ad.

Since personals ads are free, how long will my personals ad run?

Your ad will run for the term that you specify when you place the ad.  You can always extend the term of the ad by logging into your account and click the renew button.  The maximum amount of days a personals ad can have on it at any given point in time is 183 days (6 months).  For example, if you have a personals ad with an expiration date of 5 months from now and you renew it by selecting 2 additional months, the system will only accept one more month so that the ad will not go over the six month threshold.

  Browser Settings                                                                                        Top

Most browsers are pre-set to user friendly defaults which are the settings that are basically needed to browse this site without difficulty.

The two main browser settings needed are the ability to accept "cookies" and the ability to handle JavaScript.  The cookies setting is needed for logging in.  The JavaScript setting is needed in several places including placing an ad or checking the validity of the site security seal.  If you enter credit card information in the payment area and click on the submit button and get no response, you probably have JavaScript disabled on your browser.  In this case, you should enable JavaScript, then hit the refresh button, and try again.  How to set javascriptHow to set cookies.

  Editing An Ad                                                                                              Top

You can edit your ad anytime in the "My Account" area.  If you edit an ad, the "times viewed" will be reset to zero since the ad will then be considered a different ad from the original.  If you update personal account information such as your login name or password, the amount of times viewed will not be affected.

How can I delete my ad?

Ads can only be deleted by Katy Classifieds staff.  Your ad will be deleted after 60 days of its expiration date.  If you no longer wish your ad to be viewed, you can turn the ad off in the "My Account" area anytime.

Aggregate information may be shared with potential advertisers or associates but no specifically identifiable information.

  Login & Password                                                                                        Top

In order to use the services of this site, you will need to have an account setup with a login name and password.

You should choose a login name and password that is easy for you to remember but is difficult for others to guess.  You should also avoid using common words found in the dictionary because those words are easy to guess by those with malicious intent.

Although we require that a password be at least six characters in length, eight characters is recommended.  Your password should also include a mixture of letters and numbers which minimizes the risk of fraud.

  Error Messages

Most places where an error may occur contains descriptive information for you to resolve the issue.  If you receive an error message with no supporting information, you should click on the  "contact us" link found at the bottom of most pages.

If you receive an error message stating that you've entered information that  needs to be reviewed before posting, you may be able to find the reason for the error message in the Terms of Use document.
